Why My Mom Is The Coolest: A Celebration of a Lovin and Awesome Mother

My mother was awesome, despite me being the worst child she had. Growing up, I caused more trouble than my three siblings combined, often getting into mischief that would make my parents tremble with worry. As the second oldest, my pranks and antics brought her the most headaches. However, as I have grown older, I have come to understand just how incredible she truly was.

From Poor to Prosperous: A Journey of Hardship and Triumph

After the chaos of World War II, our family faced years of financial struggles. Despite this, my mother remained a pillar of strength and support. Our living conditions were far from ideal - we lived in a hostel at the Sacramento Buddhist Temple, where many families were crammed into schoolrooms, divided by army blankets for a semblance of privacy. This challenging period was not without obstacles, yet my mother's unwavering love and support helped shape us into the adults we are today.

The Impact of a Priceless Encyclopaedia

One of the most significant milestones during our difficult times was when I pleaded with her to buy an expensive set of encyclopedias. To this day, I believe that set of books was partly responsible for the success of my siblings. My brother is an attorney, my younger brother a doctor, and my sister a nurse - all achievements that I credit to the knowledge and passion gained from those encyclopedias.

A Mother Who Accepts Imperfections

My mother was far from perfect. She was a loving, caring, and strict mother. She accepted me for who I was, with all my quirks and traits. For instance, rocking back and forth - a common trait in individuals with autism - did not bother her. Instead, she understood and celebrated me for who I am, showing me that family is there to support us, not judge us. She is without a doubt the coolest mom ever!

Building Trust and Independence

My mother taught me the importance of trust and independence. She allowed me the space to express my feelings, both good and bad, without judgment. If I didn't share my day, she knew something was amiss but didn't force the conversation. Instead, she listened and supported me, always encouraging me to chase my dreams. She was a buffer during parent-teacher conferences, advocating for me when I deserved it, but not overreacting when I didn’t.

She taught me the importance of making my own choices and learning from my mistakes. As a child, I had a bedtime and rules about language, while as a teenager, these rules relaxed, allowing me to grow into an independent adult. It's a delicate balance, but she managed it beautifully, leading me to develop strong personal boundaries.

Lessons in Life and Aren't

My mother has taught me countless lessons, from the value of frugality to the importance of tipping and donating to those in need. She never once tried to be my best friend, understanding her role as a mother was paramount. Even when we argued, which was rare, she always showed me unconditional love, putting her children first and making sacrifices for us daily.

A Mother of Endless Love and Learning

She has an almost photographic memory, sharing fascinating stories and facts, making learning a fun and engaging experience. She surrounded me with educational shows like Word World and Dragon Tales, and even though I am an adult now, I still watch them - with no shame. She is a true role model, and I am forever grateful for everything she has taught me.

A Mother Who Empowers

My mother has influenced my interests and beliefs. She taught me to stand up for myself and others, and her acceptance of every aspect of me, including my asexual identity, has been a blessing. She is a master of current slang and speaks fluent 'child,' always ready to engage in word games. Her craftiness and resourcefulness are present in our interactions, and she has even thrown together last-minute costumes more times than I can count.

I want to show my appreciation for all the things she has done for me on Mother's Day. If you agree that she is amazing and deserves recognition, please like this post and spread the word to others who might also appreciate her.
