Unusual Wall Paint Colors: Bringing Natures Glow Inside
Unusual Wall Paint Colors: Bringing Nature's Glow Inside
As a seasoned interior designer and painter, I have experimented with a myriad of wallpaper colors that make my homes truly unique. My kitchen walls are painted cantaloupe orange, while my bedroom boasts a vibrant Caribbean blue. painting the living room can be an exciting yet daunting endeavor, but it's always a chance to bring my unique artistic touch to life.
Creating a Pine Forest in a Master Bedroom
One of my early and most beloved color choices was in 1980 when I painted the master bedroom walls a very dark bluish green, reminiscent of a pine forest. The room featured pink and white striped Laura Ashley bed linens adorned with pink cabbage roses and pale green leaves. The walls complemented a pale green carpet and a white marble master bath with chrome fittings. The large gable with sloped ceilings gave the illusion of walking in the woods outside, a space my family and I adored.
A Seaside Oasis in Coastal Living
Another favorite was when living near the ocean, I painted the ceilings sky blue and the walls a bluish gray, in contrast to a greenish or yellowish shade. The walls of the fireplace were a sea-foam pale green, adding a touch of natural beauty. To maintain harmony, I used furnishings in light neutral colors of cream, light taupe, and maple wood. As the outside light changed through the day, the walls reflected a variety of colors and tones, providing a bright, cozy, and peaceful atmosphere.
Natural Feelings Inside Public Buildings and Stores
Over the years, I have been involved in decorating many homes and public buildings, always striving to bring the outdoors inside using natural and neutral colors. Recent projects include a community center and two store fronts, each a new opportunity to bring my vision to life. My approach is deeply rooted in observation and experience.
Expert Tips for Choosing Wall Colors
When decorating a space, it's crucial to immerse yourself in the area, noticing how the daylight moves through the space and how it interacts with the surrounding environment. Determine your favorite time of day and the colors observed during that period. These colors should complement or clash with your belongings as desired. To make an informed decision, collect a variety of paint chips from a paint store and lay them in different parts of the room to observe how the light changes them. If still uncertain, purchase a sample amount of your top three choices and paint it on a wall that the sun will reach at some part of the day, usually the opposite wall to the window. Take the time to observe and make your final choice. Enjoy the process and the results!
