The Future of Star Wars: Episodes 10, 11, and 12?

As of my last knowledge update in August 2023, no official announcements have been made regarding the production of Star Wars Episodes 10, 11, and 12. The franchise's focus has shifted towards standalone films, new series on Disney , and exploring different timelines and characters within the Star Wars universe.

The Current State of the Franchise

The primary saga, including the Skywalker family, has been through many tragedies in the recent films. In Episode 9, Rey changed her last name from Palpatine to Skywalker in honor of Luke and Leia. Ben Solo, also known as Kylo Ren, died shortly before the ending, and predecessors like Leia, Luke, Han, Anakin, and Shmi all met their ends in various episodes. This has led to the speculation that Rey is continuing the Skywalker family line by adopting the surname.

Theories and Speculations

Some enthusiasts have debated whether or not Episode 9 marks the end of the Skywalker saga. If true, it could mean that the next trilogy will introduce a new hero who is friends with Rey and potentially starting a new family line. One theory is that current creative leaders George Lucas and JJ Abrams are looking to take a break from the Skywalker surname. However, this remains speculative and without any official confirmation.

The Direction of Future Content

There are significant doubts about the future of sequels to the sequels. The original sequels were divisive, and there is a cautious approach being taken by Disney and Lucasfilm. The buzz suggests that the franchise is moving back to the past, specifically focusing on the Old Republic era, which includes the Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) period. This timeline involves armies of Jedi and Sith, and very few if any Skywalkers, offering a vast universe to explore.

Disney’s Strategic Focus

Disney's goal seems to be re-centering the primary saga, ensuring that whatever films and shows they produce next fall outside the original chronology that began with The Phantom Menace. This strategy aims to reset the narrative and create new narratives that can coexist with the existing universe, but are not immediately tied to the main Skywalker saga.

Given the current state and direction of the franchise, fans have many questions and theories about where the Star Wars universe is heading. While speculation abounds, official announcements will shape the definitive future of the franchise.
