Finding My Calling at the Age of 34: My Journey to Becoming a Keyboard/Piano Instructor
Discovering My Life Purpose at 34: A Journey to Becoming a Keyboard/Piano Instructor
I always believed that finding one's life purpose is a journey that often begins early in life. However, I have discovered my calling quite late, at the ripe age of 34. My journey has been an interesting one, blending past experiences with a renewed enthusiasm for music and teaching.
The Path to My Calling
My love for playing the keyboard and piano wasn't born out of a pressing need or a long-standing desire. In fact, it was a period of several years of dabbling, playing for fun, and off and on practicing, before I truly started taking it seriously. I found that playing, singing, and teaching meshed naturally with my interests and I enjoyed it immensely. It wasn't until six months ago that I decided to get serious about my music. Now, I'm diving deep into learning everything I can so that I can be the best instructor and mentor to my students.
The Building Blocks of My Journey
My background in music began much earlier in my childhood. My parents weren't musical, so my upbringing didn't emphasize music in the same way it does for some families. However, they did provide me with dance lessons, primarily ballet and tap, for 15 years. Dance instilled a rhythm and timing that laid a foundation for my future musical journey. Additionally, they supported my involvement in theatre for eight years, which gave me valuable performing experience. I was also actively involved in choir, both in church and school, for five years. All these experiences contributed to the building blocks of my current pursuit.
The Struggle to Catch Up
While I had the building blocks, I now realize that I needed to catch up in adulthood to improve my knowledge and skills in various aspects of music. I practice five days a week, am a member of two bands, and have a growing number of students to teach. Despite my efforts, I often feel I wish I had more exposure to the piano when I was younger. However, I am grateful for the opportunities I have today to make the most of my newfound passion.
Connecting with God and Understanding Your Purpose
While personal growth and skills are critical, many believe that finding one's life purpose ultimately lies with the divine. The true purpose of one's life on earth is shaped by God's plans for our lives. Asking God is considered the best way to find one's purpose, but it also requires us to understand who God truly is and appreciate His character. By gaining this understanding, we can better recognize ourselves and find our true life purpose.
The Distinction Between Purpose and Goal
It's worth noting that while purpose and goal are often related, they are fundamentally different. Purpose is a dynamic, ever-evolving concept that can change at any point in time. It is more about the overarching reason for one's existence, while a goal is a specific, time-bound objective. For example, my purpose might be to 'help people,' while a goal could be to donate 20 units of blood in a particular year.
In conclusion, finding my calling at 34 has been a wonderful journey. It's not about the age at which I discovered my purpose, but about the joy and fulfillment I find in teaching keyboard and piano. I hope this perspective is helpful, and I wish you a blissful day!
