Finding Joy and Tranquility: My Unique Christmas Celebration
Unique Christmas Celebrations
Each person celebrates the festive season in their own way, and my Christmas holiday is no exception. I find solace in simplicity and contentment, often choosing unconventional activities to spend these special days.
Hiking: A Year-Round Tradition
Every year, I spend Christmas Day hiking. This activity not only maintains my fitness but also keeps me calm and serene. Given the current political climate in Victoria, Australia, my family and friends often experience conflicts and disagreements. By choosing to hike, I avoid any potential disputes and offer a gift of peace. Hiking allows me to burn calories instead of stacking them on, saving the retailers countless profits from holiday shopping.
My Ideal Christmas
My ideal way to spend the Christmas holiday would be surrounded by loved ones, enjoying both the quiet moments and festive activities. I would start by decorating the tree, followed by a cozy Christmas breakfast and exchanging gifts with family and friends. Later, we would play some fun Christmas games like Cards Against Christmas to keep the mood light and full of laughter. A traditional Christmas dinner with all the classic dishes would be enjoyed, and the evening would end with holiday movies or a peaceful walk to see the Christmas lights.
A Simple Christmas with My Dad
This year, I will spend Christmas with just my dad. We will follow the traditional Christmas celebration, but in a simplified form. I have already prepared Christmas cards and made a list for my cards. There are already gifts for three neighbors, two best friends, my dad, and my sister. An Advent wreath and calendar will be put up, and we will both attend Christmas Eve and Christmas morning masses. We will decorate a tree together and hang garlands and stockings. My dad and I will cook a homemade ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet yams, cranberry stuffing, and rolls. We will enjoy the leftovers for days and have fun playing Christmas-themed games.
Simple Joys and Gifts
Though I have everything I need and want, I still enjoy the small pleasures of life. My Christmas is based on finding fun and enjoyment in the peacefulness that surrounds me. My money at Christmas is spent unwisely but wisely, usually on my dog Bluey. Bluey is spoiled, and it brings me joy to see him happy throughout the holiday season. He often receives a Christmas chicken and sausages, as well as morsels of cheese and grated carrot mixed with dog treats and soy milk. On special occasions, he might even get a new style of leash and collar and seasonal clothing, though nothing fancy.
Another loved one who receives gifts is my granddaughter Savannah-isobel. She enjoys giant blow bubbles and playdough, whether on the beach or in the bush. Although I don't enjoy the latter, it's a kid's time to live their childhood, and it's a special moment for her and our family. We can come together for a peaceful celebration, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's the perfect time to cherish memories that no other celebration can match.
