A Droid's Journey: My Star Wars Droid Pick

In a universe where the power of a droid can alter the course of destiny, if you could own any droid from Star Wars, which one would you choose?

For me, the choice is clear: R2-D2. This beloved character is not only a fan-favorite but also a symbol of versatility and loyalty. His wide array of functions—astromech capabilities, hacking skills, and the ability to project holograms—make him a resourceful companion. His bravery and unwavering loyalty to friends such as Anakin and later, Luke Skywalker, endear him to audiences far and wide. Plus, the ability to navigate spacecraft and assist in repairs would undoubtedly be invaluable in a galaxy far, far away.

Subtlety and Efficiency: Guri from Shadows of the Empire

Guri, a droid from Shadows of the Empire, stands as a testament to the adaptability of droids. She can function on modern Earth without raising suspicion, making her a master of subtlety. However, my preference lies in a droid that can blend seamlessly with both past and future technology.

Deadly Effective Bodyguard: HK-47

HK-47, though a formidable guard, would come at a very high price given the numerous life-threatening firefights I’ve encountered. I wouldn't need a deadly effective bodyguard or henchmurderer for anything in my current life. Instead, I find more practical benefits in a translator and a droid that can remember trivial details like where the car is parked or what people’s names are.

Protocol Droids: TC-326 and L-1g General Service Droid

A protocol droid, such as the TC models, seems a better fit for my needs. They are more calm and efficient, especially the TC-326, which reportedly comes as a homebrew kit. This feature implies the possibility of maintaining the droid myself, something I find particularly appealing. The chance to learn about droid mechanics could prove invaluable on a world where certain capabilities are difficult to reproduce.

Alternatively, the L-1g general service droid from Rogue One has the exact same brain and subprocessors. Its practical design, especially for household chores, might be more suited to my needs. Considering I don’t have the technology to regularly mind-wipe a droid, it’s likely that my chosen droid will develop a sapient personality over time. Whether they start off as a quiet, unassuming protocol droid or evolve into something more, they will eventually find themselves playing keyboards and begging to do lead vocals. Take that, Kraftwerk, Freezepop, and RiD!

Conclusion: Choosing the Droid That Fits

The journey through the vast pantheon of Star Wars droids has led me to appreciate the unique qualities of each. R2-D2, while a fantastic choice, might be too brave for my taste. Guri's adaptability, while impressive, may not align with my immediate needs. HK-47, though formidable, is not for me. A protocol droid, however, offers a blend of efficiency and lasting companionship. Whether it be the TC-326 or the L-1g general service droid, the choice of a droid that will become a trusted companion is already made.
